The question we are most often asked, is my building economical to run and if not what can we do about it.
SONA have carried out reviews and issued reports dealing with the efficiency of buildings and what is required to get them to be efficient, this is usually broken down in to sections of affordability.
A lot of old buildings have been made more cost effective to run by addressing all aspects of the buildings such as the thermal efficiency of the structure, the seal around doors and windows, the type of glazing, the performance of the systems within the building, it fact all items have to be reviewed to make the survey worth while.
The survey we recommend is one that looks at all the aspects of the building systems from the boilers, lighting, cooling, recirculation systems, building structure, and the control systems in use, it is this review which helps make the right decisions.
We at SONA believe that the survey detailed above is the most important part of the process of bringing the buildings up to date and reducing its running costs.
Most will get a review of the heating system and they and are not surprised to find that the boiler may be out of date and have a very poor performance, but they then instruct the party that did the review to up-grade the boiler for a new model.
If they had spoken to SONA we may have suggested changing to a different heat source, which the plumbing company may not have considered.
